The biggest sports activity this year has commenced last April, and families finally got a glimpse of the Balesin Summer Sports Camps.

In partnership with San Miguel Corporation (SMC), the San Miguel Balesin Summer Sports Camp runs every week (Monday to Friday) until June 28. Families who registered saw their children (aged eight to 18) become truly connected with their active side through the camps, which are headed by an all-star roster of expert coaches and instructors in basketball, tennis, baseball, and soccer.

Kids hard at training

“One big difference of this sports camp from the other sports camps is that it is being held in an exclusive private island. The parents, kids, and coaches get to bond together for five days,” said Camp Director and International Professional Tennis Registry Coach Marty Ilagan.

National Mustang and Bronco coach Eric Gesmundo added that the kids are having fun training despite the longer hours of the sports clinic compared to Manila. “The training in baseball clinics in Manila lasts an hour. Here, we conduct it from 9 AM to 12 NN yet the kids don’t feel bored and pressured. This is because the place is beautiful, and the facilities and environment are more enjoyable for the kids,” he said. Coach Eric is one of the head coaches in the baseball camp, along with Jhoel Palanog and 2018 University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) Most Valuable Player and star pitcher Kiko Gesmundo.

For basketball, the trainings are headed by Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legends Vince Hizon, Alvin Patrimonio, Johnny Abarrientos, and Willie Miller, plus Jr. NBA Coach Louie Gonzalez. The tennis camp is led by national team coaches PJ Tierro, Niño Alcantara, Roland Kraut, Karl Santamaria, and Dennis Sta. Cruz. The soccer camp, on the other hand, is manned by former Davao Aguilas Football Club head coach Melchor Anzures and former national team players Loy Fuentebella, Elmer Bedia, and LA Bedia.

“We assigned national coaches to conduct the sports camps, so the kids who enrolled should expect nothing less. In the future, we hope to attract more joiners. More national coaches have also committed to joining so it will be really fun and exciting. We really want to make the kids and parents happy and make a lot of fun memories so they would want to come back,” added Coach Marty.

San Miguel Corporation’s San Miguel Food and Beverage, Inc. is providing the participants with household favorites, such as Purefoods breakfast staples and snacks, Magnolia Free Range fresh chicken, fruit drinks, and Magnolia Ice cream to beat the heat.

Meanwhile, parents and the rest of the family also get to have fun of their own as the island offers so many activities to enjoy—such as horseback riding, kayaking, paddleboarding, wall climbing, or just lazing around by the beach.
